Lawrence Young, CHAIR

Director, Randek Ltd

Lawrence has spent his career in the construction sector, leading Young Black as CEO. He has been a passionate driver for sustainable timber building and has rejoined the STA Board to support growth in the market as the industry strives to deliver significant volumes of new homes.

Lawrence is a driver of change and improvement and is also Director at Randek, the leading provider of innovative production systems and equipment for housing production.

Peter Blunt, BOARD MEMBER

Managing Director, Innovare Systems

As Chairman of the STA, Pete drives focus on setting and achieving a high bar for standards across the timber industry, while seeking better ways to simplify offsite construction, collaborate and grow the market.

As Managing Director of Innovare Systems, the only SIP provider in the UK to design, engineer, manufacture, deliver and install their own systems. Since its launch in 2007, it has an impressive track record of delivery, winning several awards for projects and product innovation.

Alex Goodfellow, BOARD MEMBER

CEO, Donaldson Offsite

With 30 years’ experience in housebuilding, design and manufacturing, Alex has spearheaded adoption of MMC across the UK. As CEO of Donaldson Offsite, part of the Donaldson Group, he leads the largest timber manufacturing group in the UK offsite / MMC sector.

As Chair of CTI (Confederation of Timber Industries) his ambition is to advance timber systems through use of PMV, automation and low carbon building. Alex is former Chair of the STA and Director of Offsite Solutions Scotland.

Andrew Carpenter

CEO

As CEO of the STA, Andrew’s goal is to expand the UK structural timber sector through collaboration across wider construction industry groups. Andrew is passionate about reducing our carbon footprint and creating opportunities for more sustainable building.

Andrew is also CEO of Constructing Excellence Midlands and is leading as Secretariat on the DEFRA and industry Timber in Construction Roadmap, designed to further the use of structural timber within the construction industry.

Dominic Lyon, BOARD DIRECTOR

Director of Sustainable Real Estate Gallagher

Domonic is a net zero fanatic. He brings business expertise in the insurance sector, providing insights on sustainable investment.

At Gallagher, Dominic focuses on designing and placing bespoke insurance programmes for corporate Real Estate owners, investors, funders and developers. Dominic is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Insurance.

Susanne Rudenstam, BOARD MEMBER

Managing Director, Swedish Wood

Susanne drives innovation in the use of structural timber, and spearheading Industrial building in timber, sustainably. She believes the efficient use of resources is the only way towards cost-effectiveness and reducing carbon.

Susanne is also CEO of the Swedish Wood Building Council and is responsible for the operations within Swedish Wood Construction and is also responsible for the international work within Wood Construction.

Nic Clarke, BOARD MEMBER

Managing Director, KLH

Nic’s role on the Board is furthering collaboration within the insurance industry alongside Dominic Lyon. Nic has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry with a strong network for collaboration. Nic is passionate about timber as an innovative and sustainable product, providing the industry with a real alternative to traditional building materials.

As Managing Director of KLH, pioneers in the production of cross laminated timber, Nic plays a major role in delivering innovation through sustainable construction.

Andrew Orriss, BOARD MEMBER

Chief Operating Officer, STA

Andrew is also the STA Assure Director and in addition to operations, he focuses on STA Assurance, managing and advancing quality assurance across the structural timber sector.

Andrew is a key technical expert within the organisation, contributing to advancing accreditation and quality.

Andrew has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry. He was previously Managing Director of Innovare Systems and past Chair of the UK SIPs Association.

Paul Newman, BOARD MEMBER

Technical Director, STA

Paul has recently joined the Board of the STA at a critical time for the sector where there is a clear opportunity for growth in the use of timber-based methods of construction with strong sustainability credentials but also significant technical challenges.

Paul has 30 years’ experience within the timber and construction industries following time as a lecturer at London Guildhall University. Paul has also held senior roles at Kingspan Group plc leading pioneering projects that delivered high performance homes at scale.

Richard Baldwin, BOARD MEMBER

Construction Director, Walker Timber

Richard leads on skills and training within the STA, working with organisations to develop strategies to close the skills gaps and encourage new entrants to the construction sector. His role is critical in advancing training and development for members and the wider industry while identifying opportunities to improve our skills base.

Richard has over 30 years’ experience in the construction industry with 20 years expertise in contract management. Richard is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building.

Brian Skilton, VICE CHAIR

Managing Director, Roe Timber

Brian leads on STA Assure alongside Andrew Orriss, who leads on quality assurance, driving excellence in our quality accreditation programme for members and working for greater certification and standards across the industry.

As Managing Director of Roe Timber Frame, Brian believes in accreditation and advancement of quality and performance and uses his expertise to drive continuous improvement across both Roe Timber and STA members.

Mark Stevenson, BOARD MEMBER

Director - Elsworth Projects Ltd

Mark Stevenson, owner of Elsworth Projects Limited, has 30+ years of expertise in construction and self-build housing. A former Managing Director at Potton, he helped shape the 2015 Self Build and Custom Housebuilding Act as Chair of NaCSBA. An MBA graduate from Loughborough University, Mark advises Ecologic SIPs, chairs Arkwood Developments, and serves on the Structural Timber Association board. He’s a trusted voice in self-build, contributing to industry publications and the National Self Build & Renovation Centre.
