Mass timber in construction

MASS TIMBER UP CLOSE

Glulam is ideally suited to larger-scale buildings such as office complexes, and commercial construction along with residential buildings as it replaces carbon-intensive components such as steel and concrete and load-bearing beams .

Glulam is a stress-rated engineered wood beam composed of wood laminations, or “lams”, bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant adhesives. Glulam is a versatile product, from simple straight beams to complex, curved panels.

Glulam has a reputation for being used in striking, exposed applications such as vaulted ceilings and other designs with soaring open spaces. In homes, churches, public buildings, and other light commercial structures, glulam is often specified for its beauty as well as its strength

Cross laminated timber (CLT) can be used for a wide range of build projects including commercial, leisure and education and it is most sought after for multistorey projects

CLT is manufactured into solid wood panels which are used as walls, roofs, floors and stairs. The building envelope can be insulated and clad with other materials such as timber, brick, render or composite panels.
